TOWN CREST

Edenderry Town Crest

The town crest was designed at the request of Edenderry Town Commissioners in 1990.

The town colours, red and white, dominate the colour scheme. The oak trees reflect the name Éadan Doire, brow of the oak wood.

The cross stands for Monasteroris, monastery of Mac Fheorais (Gaelicised name for the de Bermingham family who received a grant of land from the Norman baron Strongbow in the 12th Century).

The two escallops represent the coat of arms of the Marquis of Downshire who was responsible for the layout of the town in the 18th century.
