Edenderry is situated in east Offaly on the borders of Kildare and Meath. It is sixty kilometres from Dublin and is thriving market town with a population of 5,600 (Census 07), an increase of 1,400 fro mthe previous Census. The town has become a "dormitory town" for the city of Dublin. Edenderry is the second largest town in County Offaly
Éadan Doire is the Irish for Edenderry and it means "Brow of the Oak Wood. This wood no longer exists but is found near Castropetre Church on the Church Walk.
